Henrik Ibsen is marching up the ranks right now. Contemporary playwrights are queueing up to adapt the Norwegian dramatist’s work – and Nora Helmer, the wife who walked out on her husband in 1879, has pulled plenty of them in. Lyrical Scottish writer Stef Smith pulls A Doll’s House through the ages in this fragmented follow-up, finding Nora fighting for women’s suffrage and swishing through the Sixties. In the present, she’s still up against patriarchal pressures. So how far have we really come – and how far have we still got to go?
