A success at Sundance, Burden weighs heavy on the mind. A story of forgiveness and repentance, Andrew Heckler’s film charts an unlikely and often trying friendship between a former KKK Klansman and an African-American pastor. Set in South Carolina, still scarred by its history of segregation and slavery, Burden asks how hard it can be to throw off the problems of the past. Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker gives a towering performance as the Reverend Kennedy, alongside a revived Garrett Hedlund as the man attempting to throw off the shackles of his former associates.
