Sapporo Snow Festival

Sapporo, Japan

31 January – 11 February 2020

In 1950, six high school students built snow statues in Odori Park. Seventy years later, the Sapporo Snow Festival has solidified into one of the biggest winter wonderland events anywhere on earth. More than 2.5 million people troop to the northern island of Hokkaido year on year to marvel at the massive ice monuments made by locals – from a replica British Museum to a Snow Parthenon. Lit up at night, a showcase of world-class ice sculptures sit alongside ice slides, sledge runs and the annual Susukino Queen of Ice pageant.
