Jackie Sibblies Drury is a fiercely experimental playwright. So, what is she doing writing a family drama? Dropping us into a dysfunctional household, just as protagonist Beverly is trying to prepare for her mother’s birthday dinner, Fairview casts a careful eye over family dynamics – but all is not what it seems in this self-aware piece that watches us as much as we’re watching it. Drury doesn’t just shatter the fourth wall; she pulls the rug out from under it – a brave gesture that rightly won this dazzling playwright her first Pulitzer Prize.

“Dazzling and ruthless…a glorious, scary reminder of the unmatched power of live theatre to rattle, roil and shake us wide awake.”
