Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes

Charleville-Mézières, France

20 – 29 September 2019

Every other year, this sleepy French town in the Ardennes is overrun by puppets, big and small. Dating back to 1941, the World Puppet Theatre Festival was the brainchild of amateur enthusiast Jacques Félix, but it has since become the largest gathering of puppeteers on the planet and of our time. Performers come from all over the world with a huge range of puppets – everything from traditional wooden marionettes to mechanical giants that roam the streets. Bristol-based Green Ginger often show up with cartoonish creations that will delight, and keep an eye out for Brazilian Duda Paiva, whose mesmerising shows combine puppetry with choreography.
