Various, Netherlands Tour

1 – 30 May 2020

For Paul Lightfoot’s final season as Artistic Director at NDT, he has chosen to go back to this meditation on the nature of becoming, first performed in 2010. Schmetterling, meaning butterfly, is a highly dramatic piece of dance theatre. Protagonists dressed in black move fluidly to music that combines tunes from American indie band Magnetic Fields’s album 69 Love Songs with the post-minimalist music of Max Richter. The piece is a fitting farewell for Lightfoot who, with Sol Léon, has choreographed more than 50 pieces for NDT. Given the change that his departure signals for the company, this seems a particularly appropriate choice of farewell.
