Can Writer/Director Jordan Peele top his 2017 Oscar winning race-relations horror, Get Out? The odds are in his favour with Us. The result of another collaboration with prolific horror Producer, Jason Blum (Halloween, Split), Us follows an African-American family holidaying on the idyllic Northern California Coast. The trip takes a turn for the macabre when a group of strangers arrive who look exactly like them. Peele’s directorial skills are augmented, this time around, with an equally strong cast. Oscar winner, Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) leads with her Black Panther co-star, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) supporting. It is a film, then, that feels at once familiar and unprecedented: If Get Out explored the real-world horror underpinning interracial relations, then Us challenges the toxicity which can evolve within a national culture. The title, then, is an apt one – an invitation to look inwards, delivered to the US.
