Only Human: Martin Parr

National Portrait Gallery, London
Until 27 May 2019

Martin Parr, one of Britain’s best-loved photographers, is given the star treatment with this major show of works past and present. The focus here is on his portraits: both of the famous, such as the iconic image of Vivienne Westwood standing by a toilet in her underwear, and of the anonymous, such as ardent Brexiters wrapped in the Union Flag. Despite accusations of ‘class tourism’, there’s no judgement in Parr’s work, just rich observation. Look out for Grayson Perry’s family dressed in wacky patterned ensembles.
