Mahan Esfahani: Harpsichord Concerto

Mahan Esfahani: Harpsichord Concerto

Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool
7 April 2019

An artist with attitude, Mahan Esfahani is determined to bring the harpsichord into the twenty-first century. Esfahani doesn’t acknowledge boundaries, he simply brings a lightness to everything he plays. Here he pairs Bach with Poulenc’s Concert champêtre, forming a delightfully unexpected centre to this concert with Elim Chan – a conductor who says she wants “to create magic”. There should be no shortage of that, either in Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements or Ravel’s exquisite Mother Goose, Suite.

Concert champêtre

1. Allegro Molto

2. Andante

3. Finale
