Las Maravillas de Mali

Grande salle Pierre Boulez, Paris
4 May 2019

Originally formed in the 1960s, when a group of young Malians travelled to Cuba to study music, this Afro-Cuban orchestra were among the godfathers of ‘world music’. Sadly, all but one of the founding members have since died but their irrepressibly upbeat songs live on thanks to a talented new troupe. Bringing the Afro-Cuban band’s hits up to date, the second generation of Las Maravillas de Mali will have you tapping your feet – especially when guest star Mory ‘Yeke Yeke’ Kanté takes to the stage. Explore the rest of the Philharmonie de Paris’ Cuba/Africa weekend and look out for performances from Chucho Valdés and Orchestra Baobab.
