Mention ‘duck egg custard buns’ to anyone who’s eaten at Andrew Wong’s original Victoria restaurant, A. Wong, and watch their reaction. The British-born chef has transformed perceptions of Chinese food since its opening in 2012, winning his first Michelin star in 2017. This is the follow-up: a terrazzo-floored restaurant, with a cherry-blossom tree behind the bar and a menu that celebrates Chinese roast traditions on one hand, and London’s Chinatown on the other. Where to start? The Xian City ‘lamb burger’ and wild mushroom steamed bun are two highlights.
