2009 Year in Review

Wow, it seems like such a long time since we’ve talked. For the latter part of this year, I’ve devoted most of my energies to other pursuits. Namely, becoming a full-time freelance writer and independent consultant.  Interestingly enough, ever since I decided to make writing my full-time business, it seems like I spend less time on writing than before.
But that doesn’t make me love it any less.
And it doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking about you, Dear Reader. We had some pretty good times this year, after all.
Remember?
All the way back in January, I shared the experience of reconnecting witobama-inaugurationh a long-lost fling, and recounted a truly historic moment. I also shared some tips from the professionals on how to get good head.

At the beginning of the shortest month of the year, I posted my favorite 2009 Superbowl commercial, and cued up a helpful visual for things to say during sex – just in time for Valentine’s Day. As it turned out, love wasn’t the only thing in the air that month. There were also balls and other flammable objects being tossed around. Thankfully, most of us escaped without getting hurt.

sarcasmaIn March, things started to look up, as I actually thought I’d found a cure for what ails me. Fortunately, it turned out to be a hoax. But ‘hope springs eternal’, or as my Latino brethren might say, ‘siempre hay Esperanza’.
The rest of March was jam-packed superhero capers. I hiked the Atlanta Beltline, wrestled some tasty sea monsters in the middle of a snowstorm, and raced with the queen mother of drag
April came in like a lamb and went out like a lion. It all started with my pulling off a harmless April Fool’s Day prank in the office. We bid farewell to a bastion of Atlanta’s soul scene, and said hello to Atlanta’s annual film festival. Rod Serling trasported us to an alternate universe known as Twitter, and we took another trip even Further Away with a newcomer from across the pond. By then we were pretty hungry, so I hipped you to my picks for best fries in Atlanta and and went out for a martini with a 20-year old. Before the month was out, I revealed a whole new look and feel for the blog.

In May, I decided not to keep secrets from you anymore. I admitted I’d started seeing other people. Namely, the readers of Beer Connoisseur Magazine. But I reassured you that you were still #1 in my heart, and even invited you to meet my new squeeze.

June was chock-full of summer madness. I battled a bout of schizophrenia south of the border, and took on an urban legend in the middle of the ‘hood.

In July, it was all about beer, black arts and business. I did some behind-the-scenes blogs and videos from the 2009 National Black Arts Festival, announced the launch of Beer Connoisseur Online, and hinted that it was time for me to get down to business.

After that, things sort of died down here on the blog, but those of you who kept in touch on Twitter and Facebook were with me when I:
…let you know where you could get a FREE download of Vikter Duplaix’s “Electric Love”
… told you about the January deadline for the 2010 Women of Color Arts & Film Festival

…learned how to make a dirty hippie with Sweetwater 420

…shared my YouTube video of Dr. Jelani Cobb interviewing Robert Townsend at the 2009 NBAF.

…found out about the opening of The Entrepreneurium business suites in Kirkwood, and intown Atlanta’s first co-working facility – Ignition Alley

…fretted over late-night election results from Atlanta’s 2009 mayoral race

…got wind of Sade’s new abum to be released Feb 8.

For the latter part of the year, I’ve been writing on more work- and business- related topics. Like how to get free press for your business, and how to create a small business lead-generation program. And somewhere in the middle of all this, I even found time to write and self-publish my first book!

cheers-newyearYeah, it’s been a busy last half of the year. And 2010 holds lots of promise, lots more work, and many, many more adventures in living ‘the good life’.
I hope you’ll continue to share them with me. So when we take a look back at the end of 2010, who knows what we’ll find?
Cheers and Happy New Year,
k
