Saturday, October 25 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Decatur High School Parking Lot
(Corner of N. McDonough Street and Howard Avenue)
Don’t throw away that old cell phone, camera or PC component! Save it and recycle it on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Decatur’s Fall 2008 Electronics Recycling event. This semi-annual event has been hugely successful at diverting electronic equipment from landfills, where they may contaminate soil and water. Batteries and Styrofoam will also be accepted.

I’ve been hesitating to share this with you, but misery loves company….
Since I live so close to the Edgewood Retail District, I’m there at least 3-4 times a week. Necessary outlets like Kroger, Target, Best Buy and Lowes are my usual destinations. But peppered amongst all the big box stores are quite a few really nice boutiques – one of which I absolutely hate. Or rather, I hate that I love it so much.
have u ever made love to a weerdo?

In my opinion, Atlanta’s independent music scene has always been sort of ahead of the curve. One of the more recent examples to support that theory? Hollyweerd.
A quartet that consists of: The Dreamer, The Love Crusader, Tuki and Staggo Lee, the group describes their sound as “hip-hop, new wave ghetto tech”. The 18 tracks on their latest album, Edible Phat, mingle techno and electronica influences with no-nonsense lyrics and Dirty South Cadillac-cruising beats. Not since Gonzo have weirdos been so cool.
yogabeans – ashtanga for action figures
As usual, I was tripping around the web and magically landed on one of the weirdest and most strangely entertaining blogs I’ve seen in while – yogabeans.
Why weird? Because each post provides detailed illustrations of a different Ashtanga yoga pose using…superhero action figures.
As for the strangely entertaining part, you’ll just have to see for yourself. But, I guarantee you there’s nowhere else you’re gonna see Silver Surfer do downward facing dog, or watch a plastic, shirtless Ric Flair talk about prana.
Check it out the next time you need a moment of zen at the office.
cheers,

THE ARTIST: Slakah the Beatchild
THE ALBUM: Soul Movement Vol 1
Released: September 22, 2008
Toronto-based artist, Slakah the Beatchild (a.k.a. Byron Joseph) recently released his first album – Soul Movement 1, which would suggest (thankfully) that we can expect at least another of these in the future.

During last night’s Presidential debate, Senators McCain and Obama fielded several questions posed by audience members at Nashville’s Belmont University. But (surprisingly) only one of John-boy’s responses caused me to raise my eyebrow high enough to give me a permanent face lift.
About 15 minutes into the town-hall style debate, a young African-American man named Oliver asked the Presidential nominees about their plans to bring Americans out of the current economic crisis. McCain’s response began something like this:
“You probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before this economic crisis…”
