Yeah, I know. It’s not quite quitting time yet. But the rain has me distracted from my work, so why don’t you join me for a few random thoughts?
Attack on McCain Supporter a Hoax
Did you hear the one about Ashley Todd, the Pennsylvania McCain supporter that got beaten and robbed by a “dark-skinned black male” who became enraged when he saw the McCain sticker on her car? No…? Well, apparently neither did anyone else. The crazy b^$%*@ made it up! Have mercy.
(thanks to PostBourgie for the breaking news) Check out the full story here.
Rain(coat), Rain(coat) – Go Away.
Strange as it may seem, unless it’s seriously pouring, I actually don’t mind walking in the rain. I actually find it sort of refreshing. Plus, personal history has proven that by the time I finish fumbling with an umbrella, I’m about as wet as I would have been if I didn’t have the damned thing at all. So… why is it, that no matter how many times I politely decline the offer of a well-meaning umbrella toter to shield me from drizzle, they just don’t get that I don’t want to stand under their umba-rella, ella, ella… ay? Really, I’m fine. Thanks. Now, scram.
Fantastic Friday Roundup
Ok all you social butterflies, just because cold weather is starting to settle in, doesn’t mean you don’t still have some flitting to do. Quite a few hot happenings tonight…. I say, push yourself and try to make them all. I’m committed to the cause. Here’s a suggested order of events, but feel free to chart your own course.
To start the evening out, check out the Crown Royal Affair. In conjunction with Spelman / Morehouse Homecoming weekend, this promises to be full of AUC eye-candy. The real draw? It’s being held at the King Plow Arts Center (gotta love that view) and all the Crown Royal drinks are free all night long. Now YOU know what happens when you get a bunch of folks full of nostalgia and brown liquor.
After that, slide on over to Cenci in the East Atlanta Village. Tonight is the once monthly Spread Love Experience with DJs Kemit and Ausar, and this edition is a tribute to FELA KUTI!!!! The Crown Royal should have you lubricated enought that not only will you finally be able to understand all of Fela’s lyrics, you’ll also have enough courage to dance to them. Expect a guest appearance from Mausiki Scales and the Common Ground Collective.
Round out the night with a trip to Sugarhill in Underground. DJ Spinna – one of the hottest DJs on the global music scene will be in the house. Don’t worry about being too tired or too tipsy – Spinna’s the sort of magician that specializes in ‘second winds’. Plus, i guarantee you that the energy is gonna be off the meter – even if I have to hold it down myself. Sweat children, sweat.
And since you’ll already be in Underground, why not cap off the night with a visit to Atlanta’s newest Waffle House? To be sure, it’s not glamorous and efficient like the ones OTP, but since it’s only a few weeks old, you’ll at least be able to say, “I knew it when…”.
If You’re Not Going Out, Stay in the House!
But if you simply MUST stay at home this chilly, rainy evening, here’s a mix from Atlanta’s own premier house DJ – Michael Alan to keep you warm and toasty. He calls it the All Mixed Up edition. I’m listening to it now…DEEEEEP. Get yours.
cheers,
k
