UNITE NOLA

Tripping around the web today, I happend upon a post on The Groundswell Blog about New Orleans-based artist Dan Tague’s latest exhibit.
The collection, entitled ‘Cash Rules Everything Around Me’, features denominations of the almighty dollar in a variety of crumpled-up positions that appear meaningless at first glance. But a closer look reveals that the artist has transformed each note into a simple, but poignant statement of artistic protest.

Here are some images from the collection:

Unfortunately, the exhibit – which is on display at the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery -ends today, but you can see the rest of the exhibit on their site or wacth this video of Dan Tague speaking about his inspiration for the exhibit.

That guy is talented. To take something so normal and everyday and tweek it just so, to create a challenging and visually stimulating piece of art shows insight.

I also like how the pieces were printed large. It gives them more impact.

Hey read your blog awhile back and thought you might like to see what Dan Tague is up to now. Check it out!

In the true spirit of creativity, entrepreneurship and community activism, it is our distinct honor to announce the launch of two new websites that helps spread the message of hope and at the same time helps artists with housing.

    http://www.hopeinthewhitehouse.com

    and

    http://www.cashruleseverything.com

Artist Dan Tague and gallerist Jonathan Ferrara have joined forces to launch these websites of shirts of art featuring Tague’s folded $$$ bill imagery of unique messages of inspiration and self-examination.

Tague’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and art centers across the US and is in several prominent museum and private collections nationwide. His original works on paper sell for thousands. In an effort to make his work more accessible to all those who love his art, we are releasing these shirts of art.

One dollar, $1.00, from every shirt sold will go directly to the New Orleans Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a certified 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, that brings families and communities in need together with volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable houses.

*** A portion of the donated proceeds will go to providing affordable housing for artists in New Orleans***.

SPREAD THE WORD TO OTHERS WHO SHOULD SEE IT AND HELP ARTISTS REBUILD NEW ORLEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
